Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by today! Debby is such an inspiration to me, not only in her creativity but her bold faith! She has so generously joined our creative and education team here at Illustrated Faith and I am excited for her to share some of her process with you! Please welcome Debby!!!
Hi! I’m honored and humbled and excited to be a part of the Creative and Education Team here at Illustrated Faith – it’s amazing to see how God is using this expression of our art to help us fall in love with His Word in a whole new way and get so many people reading their Bibles! I love it!
One of the most frequent questions that I see is, “Where do I start?” I thought that, for my first post here, I’d start at the beginning and share one of the ways that I find the verses that I illustrate in my journaling Bible.
I read my Bible in the morning most days – on my phone, using the YouVersion Bible app.

Just recently I started reading using two different plans that you can see on my phone in the photo. I like reading a little bit here and there and using a plan keeps me on track.

Often when I’m reading, a few verses will stand out to me, so I’ll copy them into my journal, usually changing the wording to make it personal – writing it from me to God or from God to me. Sometimes this inspires me to get out my journaling Bible and illustrate those verses there to help me remember them. Recently I was reading Psalm 145 and it meant so much to me that I decided to write the whole thing out in my journal.

As I was writing it, I began to see a pattern in the words – lots of “You are” and “I will” – so I started highlighting those things in my Bible with a colored pencil.

I outlined those phrases with the Zig marker that I love and colored them in some more. From there I underlined some verses and drew a little scallopy cloud around my favorite verse in the chapter and colored it in.

Then it was time to pull out my scrapbooking supplies. I keep a basket with stickers and rub-ons handy to use in my Bible. I started with the pretty leafy circle – a rub-on from Crate Paper. I added the letter stickers and worked my way out from there. I love the word “awesome” here – it shouts that God is awesome! It is a rub-on from My Mind’s Eye. The heart and cute little globe are stickers from Crate Paper. I had highlighted in the passage all the great things about God, so in the margin I listed all the actions that I should take that the verses say to tell how great He is!

Here’s a look at the full spread of two pages – I don’t usually try to coordinate the two pages – this time they just both happened to have my favorite color… pink!

Now, how about trying it yourself? Psalm 145:13-21 has a perfect list for you to highlight and practice on. Here’s mine… It’s a love letter from God to YOU this Valentine’s week!

I’m looking forward to sharing this adventure with you in the months ahead! You can visit me on my blog and follow me on Instagram and be my friend on Facebook.
Thank you so much Debby, I love how your bible perfectly reflects not only your style but your walk!!
I hope you have a wonderful day!
Shanna
