So many times we get the question… “what do I need to get started?” Our answer is always, “a Bible and a pen.” Because honestly, that’s all you really NEED, but I know that’s not the answer you were looking for. So, I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about what I use for mixed media Bible journaling. I’ve been doing a lot of traveling and I’m gearing up for another trip soon because my hubby wants to work on some projects in my Dad’s workshop. That means, I need to bring along some supplies to keep me busy too. I don’t bring along my paints when I travel, because honestly that would be messy if something happened to them en-route. So, let’s start with the basics…
BIBLE AND BIBLE MAT

Since my Bible is full of chunky goodies, I need the Bible mat just to be able to write on a smooth surface, am I right?
STICKERS

I pack some of my favorite alphabet and wordfetti stickers, this makes it easy for title work… because let’s be honest, my handwriting is awful, don’t even get me started on hand lettering LOL.
DEVOTIONAL KIT AND DIE CUTS

OK well, I’m not a flip through the Bible and stop here kinda girl… I need a study to get me started in the right direction. I also, love to layer pieces so diecuts are super fun to add in.
STAMPS AND INK

Sooooo, I’m a stamp lover and have been a stamper since I was a kid. It’s my love language honestly. Being a mixed media artist though, I need permanent inks that won’t smear or reconstitute when wet. Don’t forget your date stamp!
SCISSORS, TAPE, AND BRUSHES

I suppose I do bring some paint, just not acrylic paints. I stick with the watercolors because I don’t have to worry about them making a mess if an accident happens. Can’t forget the scissors and tape though, I swear I’m always missing my tape runner somewhere and then I find it in the bottom of my bag. If flying though, be aware of what scissors you’re allowed to carry on.
PENS, PENCILS, AND MARKERS

OK, this is where I splurge… because honestly a good pen and Bible is all you need right? I do love the color pens for mark making, and the Big Brush markers for stamp ink and coloring since I’m not bringing my acrylic paints.
WASHI

Don’t leave home without it…. seriously! Washi all the things! I kid, but I do like it for marking the edges of a page when I’m going through a devotional kit so that they all coordinate and I can find them easily. I also like to add it for layering… and remember that washi tape mixed media background you all loved? I should do that again and sneak some white acrylic paint in my bag. I also love highlighting scripture verses with washi tape now too… no more markers for that. (I know, I’m shocked too!)
So that’s my edition of “What’s in your bag” Bible journaling style. I hope you enjoyed this episode and will see you back here next month with more mixed media Bible journaling fun. As a reminder, you only really need a pen and a Bible, and these are all just fun extras to play with. Have a great day!
